About Sullivan’s Island
Where is Sullivan’s Island? Sullivans Island is just 20 minutes from the Charleston International Airport and 15 minutes from Downtown Charleston. The Isle of Palms is only about 5 minutes away, and Mt. Pleasant is just a short drive across the Isle of Palms Connector or Ben Sawyer Bridge. The trip to Isle of Palms or Mt. Pleasant offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, Breach Inlet, The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, numerous creeks, and miles of salt marshes.
Many of the streets on the island are called “stations” because a trolley line used to operate here. The trolley line ran the length of Sullivan’s Island over to Mt. Pleasant via the Old Pitt St. Bridge. Remnants of the bridge can still be seen from the South end of Sullivan’s Island. The Old Pitt Street Bridge is now a city park in Mt. Pleasant. The park offers views of Charleston Harbor, the City of Charleston, Ft. Sumter, and the surrounding marsh.
Sullivan’s Island Downtown is located on Middle St. from Ben Sawyer Boulevard to Station 18. In the small downtown area, you can find dining, shopping, a post office, a convenience store, a daycare, and more.
